Cell Phones & Pregnancy

I think I talked on my cell phone several times a day when I was pregnant last year... should I worry?
A giant study, which surveyed more than 13,000 children, found that using
the handsets just two or three times a day was enough to raise the risk of their
babies developing hyperactivity and difficulties with conduct, emotions and
relationships by the time they reached school age.

  1. Studies like that are so pointless. There is absolutely no way possible to make the links that they do with any kind of authority.

Having said that, the Chinese, who are full of 'wive's tales', are adamant that pregnant women should never be around cell phones or computers while pregnant.

  3. I certainly would not say such studies are pointless, since it was through similarly designed studies we found that smoking causes lung cancer. At the same time, however, I do not see any reason to worry.

As the news article notes, this is the first study to document a relationship between cell phones and any negative health effects. In addition, the article notes the researchers "knew of no biological mechanisms that could cause" the behavioral changes. In other words, this doesn't make sense.

But, there are other explanations that might make sense. The article notes "mothers who used the phones frequently might pay less attention to their children," and I think this possibility is heightened by the fact the behavior differences were even stronger in children who frequently used cell phones themselves before the age of 7. What kind of parents in the late '90s had children who were walking around talking on their cell phones? I certainly expect such parents to have been very different in many ways from the majority of parents.

  4. Your child/children are NOT going to have "Behavioral" issues because you talked on a cell phone while being pregnant.

If you, after your child is born, give your primary attention to yacking on the phone or another electronic such as TV, computers etc.....then your children are going to "Act out" to get your attention.

I find it interesting in every article I have read about links to behavior problems with children never have a conclusion of parents taking personal responsibility and disciplining their children or lack there of as a reason why there are children with behavioral issues. They aren't "just born with it".

Some children are, based on their temperament, are more "hyped up" than others. Amber for example is very very very energetic child and at times has required A LOT MORE discipline than Alyssa who is exactly like Jason being very laid back calm and cool about everything.

Amber is 12 ...she has and is the first person awake in the house......Alyssa on the other hand is and was never awake before Amber even when she was a baby!

What I can tell you from my own personal experience is that if you spend too much time on the phone or computer your, or should I say MY children definitely let me know it!!!
