Free Food, Yeah!

Today is a great day for free food.

First, we stopped in this morning and I got a free 7.11 oz slurpee from 7-11.

(I didn't take this picture while driving!)

Then, we headed over to the local Chick-fil-a for a free entree. I had a silly cow hat and some cow stickers we had picked up there a few days ago. I put the hat on my head and some stickers on my shirt. Then, since Charlotte was just in a plain, white onesie, I stuck a few stickers on her.

When we got inside we did get some funny looks. There were no signs in the place and no one else was dressed like a cow, or in cow accessories like us. Oh well... I'm used to being the different one. The manager said that Charlotte could get a free kid's meal, which I wasn't expecting. She has never had Chick-fil-a and had already eaten breakfast, so I am saving her's for lunch. I was also surprised that the manager said I could have a free meal too. I really only expected to get an entree. I think he was so nice because they had not had much free traffic, just 6 teenagers earlier in the morning.

It was really hard to take a self-portrait and get Chick-fil-a in the background.

Of the several photos I took inside, this is the only one that came out decent. Probably because I was in the rest of them! :)

You can see how other people dressed up by visiting Crystal's Money Saving Mom post for today.

Win Free Groceries

I love Publix. My favorite paid job in the whole world, was working as a cashier at Publix. My husband worked there too, but I didn't care for him much back then.

Anyway, they have a game going on right now to win free groceries for a year (awarded in $2500 worth of gift cards)! I could really use that right about now. If you live in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, or Tennessee, you should click over and try to win yourself. They are also giving away a limited number of $8 gift cards.

I'd be happy with that too. Oh, and if you win the year's worth of groceries, I expect you to invite me over for dinner at least once! You can enter once a day. Good luck!

Father's Day Giveaway from Kailani

Kailani is being very generous this week with lots of Father's Day giveaways! The one I am the most excited about is her giveaway for a 30 GB Zune Digital Player.

It appears this giveaway is sponsored by Best Buy, which is pretty cool if you ask me. Does Best Buy want to give me something to give away?! :)

If you don't read her blog, head over and get yourself entered!

From Dates to Diapers

Recently I have been very winny. I have won a few blog giveaways recently and want to tell you about one of them. From Dates to Diapers sponsored a giveaway in April for a Sandisk 4 GB flash drive. It arrived in the mail a week or so ago and I love it! This is something I would not have ever bought for myself, but am so glad I have. It holds way more than I need it to and I don't have to worry about having enough room.

Isn't it funny how technology changes so quickly? When I bought my first digital camera, a 52b mb card was about $80. Now, we can get 4 GB worth of memory for only $35!

Glamorous Girl

I read a lot of wonderful blogs. I even keep a list on the right side of this blog in case anyone ever gets bored and wants to know more about what I like to read. Really, you should check some of them out some day. It will be a worthwhile endeavor.

Sometimes, the blogs I read have giveaways. I love these. I don't necessarily enter all of them, but when it comes to cute, girly things for Charlotte, I do what I can to get an entry. Ellinghouse's giveaway for a set of Glamour Girl clips from this Etsy shop was no exception. In fact, I was so enamored by these adorable clips, that I bought some before the giveaway was even over! Including this one on the right with the precious emerald green jewel in the middle and the butterfly on the left. The wire detail and the stitching in the wings are so delicate and precious.

Then... I found out that I won! Woo hoo! I don't win things very often, so this was exciting. Charlotte's new clips arrived in the mail yesterday and I'll try to remember to take a photo to show you later.

I will say, one thing I like about these clips is that I think... in moments of whimsy, a momma could wear these for fun. Especially these cute black and white ones with the party buttons in the middle. She also makes hair pins that are more suited for older children and adults. As a matter of fact, I almost bought this set for myself. Aren't they gorgeous?! I love the color combination and the touch of class that the beads and jewels provide.

The clips that I bought have proven themselves to be fairly baby-proof too. Charlotte has gotten one or two out of her hair for a taste-testing and they don't seem to be any worse for the wear. While I try to catch it when things go in her mouth, I don't worry too much because the designer writes, "Only non-toxic glues are used in making the clips and hair pins."

Mama's Day Gift Guide

As a follow-up to my own list of 13 gifts for mothers (well, for this mother at least), I want to share a gift guide created by the women at Mama Speaks.

From their Pamper Her collection of ideas... I know I mentioned Godiva chocolate in my list, but this 48 count box of Dagoba chocolate sounds so appealing... I think it might compete with Godiva for my chocolate love. Really, it should be required that every woman can tell the difference between Peruvian and Ecuadorian chocolate. If we are lucky, chocolate might be on our woman final!

From their Any Mama, Any Age collection, it didn't take long to realize I NEEDED the Gelaskins Growth cover for my cell phone. Just last night I tell you, Bruce had to pick my cell phone up off of the driveway after I dropped it. I didn't have any pockets so I thought I could put it in my mouth while I took Charlotte out of her car seat. Even my mouth isn't that big, so down it tumbled, bouncing off my car once before the concrete added to the pock mark collection on the phone. OH wait, I just realized they don't do a cover for my cell phone... can I have a cool laptop cover instead?

While I am not much of a Hobby Mommy, I still checked out their list for the crafty mommas out there. Who knows, maybe one day I'll find time to finish my scrapbook, sew matching mother-daughter outfits, and learn the fine art of knitting? Of the choices they listed, my number one pick would be the engraved moleskin notebooks. I always have ideas to blog about but often forget by the time I get back to my computer. I think I would choose a custom cover and try to figure out how to use the picture of the family from my blog header for the cover.

I'm going to skip the Expectant Mama section, since well, I've haven't been that since August. Though I will say, the body pillow was my favorite accessory when I was pregnant! I'd still use it now if it didn't get in the way of c0-sleeping. Go check it out yourself.

Finally, they have a list for the Not-So-Stationary Mama. As mentioned previously, I already have my mommy business cards, so my next pick from this list would be the one item from Etsy (Have I mentioned my love affair with Etsy? It is what I browse when I can't think of anything else to do online and I don't want to fold laundry or do dishes.) These creative note cards have a touch of whimsy and elegance, which works for me!

Green Cleaning

I've always tried to pay attention to what I use when I clean the house. (No jokes about the when part allowed!) But now that I have a little one ready to crawl all over everything, it seems more important that I use products that are non-toxic. I've read about Basic H in several places and might just give it a try, especially if I win this week's giveaway from Crunchy Domestic Goddess.

One thing I am already doing to help make the world a little bit greener is to not use all of the lights in my classroom. Now, during FCAT testing they will all be on. We don't want anyone thinking it is nap time. But in the normal course of teaching, I just don't need that much light for the students to see properly.

Contest Winner

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I won a prize giveaway in the Bloggy Giveaway carnival hosted by Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer. Today, I received my gift. It is a business card for moms. I can't remember who I won it from though. Maybe she reads my blog and will remind me?

Either way, I am so excited and can't wait to get some printed up, hopefully in full color. As an added bonus, it matches my new Vera Bradley hipster bag! The quality of the card doesn't look so great here and I deleted some info to protect myself from stalkers. But maybe if I meet you in person one day, you can receive the real thing!

Bloggy Giveaway Winner

I can't even begin to express how much fun I had during Shannon's Bloggy giveaway this last week. I must have visited over 300 new blogs, which explains the lack of activity here at Family Musings.

Reading all of your cute and funny and touching baby stories made for a good week. It was hilarious to read that so many little ones wanted to know when their daddy's babies were due. We often tease my dad about having triplets any day now! And the cute baby noises, my daughter makes those too! I shared this video and this video of her noises previously. And I was touched by so many of you who wanted to share this gift with someone you know who just had or is expecting a little one soon. Some of you even gave me things to look forward to in raising my own children, or comfort that I'm not the only one that makes mistakes (honey nut cheerios aren't okay?). I was encourage by those of you who shared that you are nursing your babies, so few women do these days.

I really wish I could afford to send something to everyone that shared a story, but I can't - I have a baby! :) After using the random interger generator at Random.org, the winner is post number 59, The Holladay Family.

She wrote, "My favorite baby story is mixing up my own twins. My mom would correct me with my own children! Sadly, I still get them mixed up once in a while if they are turned around and not looking directly at me! My other favorite baby story is my son Spencer who has a muscle disease didn't know he had arms to use until he was three months old. He came out of the womb holding his neck up, completely aware and looking around. He wouldn't use his arms to move, he would hold them close to his body and throw his neck and then move his legs around. Even when he was a tiny week old baby he was always turning upside down in his crib at naptime. At three months old, I put a mobile above him on the floor and he realized he could reach for it! He has been using his little arms and hands ever since! My new baby coming in April is a girl and I am looking forward to seeing how he will interact with her! So, those are a few of my fav. baby stories. Thank you for you having such a generous giveaway! I would LOVE to win!"

And win she did! In case you missed it, this is what she won. I'll be sending her an e-mail shortly to give her the good news. Now, let's hope I win something in one of those 300+ giveaways I entered!

Bloggy Giveaway

Photobucket

When Shannon at Rocks In My Dryer agreed to host another Bloggy Giveaway, I wonder if she realized she would have more than 500 submissions!!! (I think I am #500 on Mr. Linky if links don't get deleted!!!) There is a lot of stuff being given away and I am so glad I get to be a part of it! I can't even guess how much time I've spent today browsing blogland and making new friends.

I decided to get in on the fun and have put together my own little giveaway. Since the idea is to give something away that relates to who you are in blog land, I decided to do something about baby girls and breastfeeding. Here is what you might win (all items are new, unopened, and with tags):

1 pack of Playtex Nursing Pads
1 "Worth the Wait" message onesie (3-6 months)
1 On the Go Bottle Warmer
1 Carters Snuggle Blanket
1 Hallmark Baby's First Christmas Ornament
1 Gumdrop newborn pacifier
Plus any other random things I might find!
(Most of these were things I have duplicates of from my own baby showers last summer.)

Just leave a message in the comments with your favorite baby story, either yours or someone elses. I'll choose a winner using a random number generator when the Bloggy Carnival ends on Friday, Feb 1st. Sorry, open to US residents only.

Good luck!

EDIT: Here are some of my favorite giveaways (check back for additions):
A Beautiful Apron from Lovin' Our Large Family
Mustard Seeds Game from Home But Not Alone
Burt's Bees Baby Pack from Jenn's Den
$5 CVS Card from A Call to higher Places
Adorable Pantaloons by Handmade by Cole
Two Home Organization Books from Heart at Home

EDIT: As of Saturday, February 2, at 3:10 pm, this giveaway is now closed. Go here to see who won.

Vision Forum

You might remember a few months ago I posted about a book I wanted called Passionate Housewives. That book was published by Vision Forum and now they are offering another giveaway, via Biblical Womanhood. This time, you can enter to win a $100 gift certificate for their online store. I think this is a great giveaway and very encouraging.

I browsed all over their site and decided that if I won, I would like to get Charlotte started in their Beautiful Girlhood collection. It is like American Girl, but based on moral or Christian characters. Priscilla Mullins is my favorite character.

Giveaway

There are lots of blogs in the blogosphere that give away stuff. Most of it requires you to leave a comment and as I am a blogging lurker (I rarely comment) I don't participate in those giveaways. There are however, some blogs that just require you to fill out an entry form with your name and e-mail address. Challies Dot Com is one of those. I am really excited about Tim Challies' blog giveaway this month. It looks like something the youth at my church would really enjoy. Click on the link below to learn more and enter. Use referral code 40587 when you enter.
